Activities of the Volkssport Association of Alberta
The VAA Bylaws state that the aims and objectives of the Association include:
- organizing, promoting and conducting the program as may be sanctioned
by the IVV
- acting as the official representative of the IVV and CVF in Alberta
- conducting ways of promoting Volkssport and raising money to carry out
the objectives
Our Association consists of the following elected
officers:
- Past President
- President
- Vice-President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
Appointed executive members include:
- Sanction Coordinator
- Fundraising Coordinator
- Materials Manager
- Historian
- Web site Manager
We also have appointed Directors of not less than five members, who represent
their club and other clubs in their area as needed, to ensure provincial
representation.
Meetings of the Executive are held as needed. Four Board of Directors meetings a
year are held as well as the Annual General Meeting each spring. Committee meetings
are called as needed and e-mail provides quick contact with all club presidents,
directors and executive members.
The VAA supports club activities, coordinates the scheduling of walks and promotes
communication among club presidents throughout the province. Minutes of VAA executive
and directors meetings are distributed, plus our newsletter, the Volkssport Voice,
is published three to five times a year. The Web site, www.albertavolkssport.ca
provides information about all the Volkssport activities throughout Alberta.
As the official representative of the IVV and CVF for Alberta, we are
a liaison for the following functions:
- Our provincial sanction coordinator covers all activities involving sanctioning
events, fees and statistics of the clubs and the VAA, submitting the documents to
CVF.
- Club presidents place all orders for CVF materials through the Materials
Manager.
- The Historian collects and updates VAA and club histories for our records and
for the national historian.
VAA raises funds by working a Casino every three to four years, and one to three
Bingos a year. Fundraising proceeds are used for producing and distributing the
annual Event Calendar, advertising the program through brochures, web site and
media. The Association also supports club activities by providing them with
publications and the necessary equipment for carrying out their program.
VAA Sponsor Walks:
- for the VAA AGM weekend
- year-round walks in areas without a club or where a new club is starting up
- a summer program of evening walks
- special mountain walks
The Association encourages the formation of new clubs, offering information and
support, traveling to the area to help set up the club and walks if necessary. Look
